8629 KM LATER: I’M IN NEPAL!

Arrived! Sitting on the bed in my room at the hostel, and so far everything has been just perfect with the trip. From the train to Copenhagen airport until stepping out of the taxi after paying about 5 euros for the trip from the airport everything is just fine.

[slide] From Sweden to Nepal.

It’s been a long trip, but luckily I didn’t had to wait so many hours between my different flights. I must say it felt weird to leave the very rich country of Qatar to travel to one of the world’s least developed countries, which was so very clear when I sat in the taxi. But when I stood at the airport I understood perhaps one part of why Qatar airways have a direct connection with Kathmandu. Of the observations of the luggages that went on the conveyor belt many of the passengers on the flight were probably guest-workers in Qatar. I know I’m just making assumptions now, but that is my impression of it. Loads of tellies and satellite dishes emerged from the cargo compartment of the airplane.

It’s a bit strange with the time as well, because Nepal is 3 hrs 45 min ahead of Sweden when it comes to time zones. What I’ve read about the 45-minutes thing is that Nepal wants to mark out that it’s a country and not just a part of India in that way. India is 3 hrs. 30 min. ahead of Sweden and central Europe.

So when the time here is 18.45 (in half an hour when writing this), it’s just 15.00 in Sweden. Have to try to keep that in mind when trying to contact Sweden. When I arrived at the hostel there is a power shortage, which is normal according to the staff, and the power will be back at 21 tonight. So I write this on the computer and will post it a bit later. As soon as I’ve got the password to the wifi-network.

Update at 20.35. Ok, now I’ve eaten and I’ve gotten hold of the password. Sitting down in the lobby because the wifi was to bad in my room, but as long as it works in some way I’m happy. I started talking with some backpackers that also live here at the hostel so we grabbed a dinner here. Didn’t had the energy to go out and find a place to eat. They are leaving for Mt. Everest tomorrow (not to climb the peak, but walk up to the base camp). I ate some Nepalese food and it was both tasteful and spicy. I liked it a lot, and tomorrow we’ll see if I’m sick or not, even if I’m not so worried about that. I’m to tired to go out tonight to look around, so I save that for tomorrow instead. Now I’ll take a shower and then sleep. I’m totally exhausted right now. And yes, the photos are from the trip down here, if you missed that.
