Gick up 4.45 i morse för att ta mig upp en sista gång till Sarangkot för att göra lite intervjuer där med turister och deras “Village Development Committee”. VDC har alla områden (tror jag..) som är för små för att vara kommuner. Hur som helst blev den en hurtig promenad upp för berget igen och solen bröt lagom upp över Himalaya när jag hade några meter kvar. Har sett den där soluppgången några gånger, så jag var inte så imponerad den här gången

  Ok, the photos first. I’ve got a request about what my room looks like, and I took a photo yesterday of it, so above here you see it. I’m to tall for the bed, so my feet hangs out over the edge, but I’ve gotten used to that. And when people call me photo-crazy, you should have seen the crazy tourists from China at Sarangkot today. They where from a university and mostly members of a photo club at the university. Anyway, why have some of the most expensive photo-equipment in the world, when you can’t handle it? I say that, as they asked me to take some photos of them with their cameras, and they had them in full automatic mode shooting JPG-files. Things like that can get me really angry. With that equipment you just don’t do that. Why ever pay around 2.500 euros for a camera that you then use it in the proper way. Perhaps they knew, but what I observed today was photo-equipment worth at least 25.000 euro in the hands of people that didn’t knew how to handle it in the proper way. That makes me sad.

  Igår var jag iväg på en intervju med den lokale ordföranden i TAAN (Trekkers Agency Association Nepal) gällande mitt ena område jag har tänkt använda mig av. Det blev en givande intervju och nu har jag “bara” 40 minuter intervju att skriva av, eftersom jag spelade in den med mammas mp3-spelare, som jag norpat med mig hit ner. Den kom väldigt väl till pass här, för jag hade då inte klarat av att ta anteckningar under det samtalet vi hade. Det var väldigt givande och inspirerande att få höra hans synvinkel av hur det fungerar här nere och hur de arbetat med detta området.

  Resultatet blev att jag fick väldigt bra priser i förhållande till ordinarie. Betala 200 kr per dag inklusive guide i stället för 750 kr säger inte jag nej tack till. Han förstod min situation och tyckte det var ett bra pris för mig. Så om några dagar ska jag nog iväg på den här “lilla” turen som kommer vara i fyra dagar. Då blir det inget internet för mig. Jag kommer ha laddat batterierna till kamerorna (tar med den andra som reserv), och sedan är jag glad att jag har så väl ingångna skor, samt att jag varit uppe vid Sarangkot några vändor, så jag inte är helt otränad. Även om jag känner mig slö som en åsna här nere ibland.

  So, the upcoming trek will be interesting. That area sounds as very good for my studies, and I do hope I’ll enjoy it. Well, I do know I will. So I can say that the ongoing work is moving forward. It feels really good. Tomorrow we (me + Sascha, my contact here at UDTC) have a meeting with the president (if I understood it right) of ACAP. ACAP is Annapurna Conservation Area Project, who works with the largest trekking area in Nepal. They have codes of conduct and everything that I’m interested in and I want to get to know how they work. And I have to get a permission from them to enter the area.
